FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at circus@jajapdx.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely not! Just a positive attitude and open mind. We welcome circus & aerial newcomers of all kinds. Circus is fun, great exercise, artistic, collaborative and really empowering. We offer aerial classes, juggling, poi, flow, acrobatics and more. We invite you to try them all and see what you like. We can’t wait to share it with you!

We have several class options perfect for beginners. Check out our Adult 16+ Classes or Youth Classes, then look for Intro classes, or check the class descriptions to see if they are open to beginners.

You do not need any prior level of fitness, strength or flexibility. Your instructor will tailor your class experience to help you learn and gain strength safely. You'll be surprised at how quickly you improve and get stronger!

  • We recommend wearing close-fitting, non-restrictive clothing that allows for movement.
  • Tight fitting stretchy leggings that will cover the backs of your knees, or footless tights are a great option. A shirt that will cover your midriff without riding up, or that you can tuck in. No zippers, belts, watches, rings, or jewelry. This is for your safety and to protect the equipment.
  • We do have a drinking fountain, but feel free to bring your own water bottle/drink/snacks.

  • We take safety very seriously at JaJa Circus.
  • Aerial and circus arts in general are phenomenal at helping improve muscle strength, especially upper body and core, with minimal impact. You can also expect enhanced flexibility, coordination and body awareness, but there are risks involved, as with all physical activity. Consistency and a solid foundation are the best way to prevent injury, along with supporting your training in other aspects of your life, including hydration, diet, stress management, etc.
  •  All our rigging points have been assessed by a structural engineer, all of our equipment is rated and everything is inspected on a regular basis.
  • Students may not touch any rigging or circus equipment unless specifically given permission by a supervisor.
  • Check out our full Safety Policies here.
  • All students who wish to rig apparatuses elsewhere are encouraged to seek the advice of an experienced aerial rigger.
  • Trust your body and self; if you ever feel like something is injurious or unsafe, stop and let someone know!

  • All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the start of the class or open training session in order to receive a credit towards a class or open gym. Refunds will not be issued for missed classes. In the case of a class being cancelled by the facility, a class credit or full refund will be issued.
  • Our full Cancellation Policy is listed here.
